A Little Easter Vignette

I don't really do a ton of decorating for Easter, but I did do a small vignette on the island.  My bunnies wanted to come out and play.

Tulips will always get me in the mood for Spring and Easter.  So pretty and cheerful.

Childrens Garden

My husband is a Master Gardener and does a lot of teaching in Phoenix, so he is always anxious to spread the word about fabulous gardens and loves to have children get interested at an early age.  Each year the Master Gardeners have a garden tour to raise money.  This past weekend we got a sneak peek at all of the places on the tour.  My favorite was a school in Scottsdale that a couple of Master Gardeners helped the children develop some of the cutest gardens you have ever seen.

Everything was planted and painted by all the children.

Pop cans that they made into pinwheels.

The children all love their gardens and they have learned so much.  I think this is a fabulous project.

Easy Yummy Onion Rings

I love onion rings, but I don't like the ones that are tons of batter and the onions seem all limp and soggy inside.  I have a recipe for the best Beer Battered rings you will ever eat, and so easy.

The secret is in the recipe.  You use 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of cornstarch plus 2 teaspoons baking powder.
Mix in small amounts of beer until you have the batter the consistency of pancake batter.  Thick, but not too thick.

Stir until smooth , no lumps. Not too thin.

Cut the onion rings about 1/2 inch this.  Place a few at a time in the batter, turning with tongs to coat them well.

Place in skillet with enough hot oil to float the rings.  Keep the oil hot, but not so hot they burn.  As the brown turn to cook both sides.  This takes just a minute.

Place on paper towel to drain. Season with salt and pepper to taste.  These are so light, crispy and non-greasy yummy. Your family will love them.

Cows, Gotta' Love 'em

Why is it that cows remind me of French farmlands and the country.  Anyway, I love cows.  I found these two at GW last week for $2.99 each.  I had a place for one, and thought a friend of mine would like the other one.

See it is a hook.  Isn't that wonderful.

I thought it would be fabulous on the wall with a tea towel or an apron.  However I don't have any walls in my kitchen, so the side of the island, next to the sink is where I put mine.

Isn't it cute with a checked tea towel.

How fun is this.  Don't you love it when you find something unusual.

So, what have you found lately that is fun and different.

Super-Duper-Find

Oh I am so excited, you know how I said that finally our GW has some neat things again, well, I found a couple of really super treasures.  Plus with it being Senior Day and I was already in the neighborhood, of course I had to pull in and take a look.

I am going to tease you for a minute, but this is my super, duper, duper find.  Wait just a minute and I will show you.  Everything was 25% off the marked price.

 More silver - - - -

 and still more.  Are you ready - - - - - - - -Drum Roll Please

All polished up, look at my great finds.

This is my super duper special find.  Can you believe this for $4.99, obviously they had no idea what they were doing.  Just put the two pieces together and tape them really good and stick a price on it.  I am thrilled, I think it is stunning.  This piece was so black I wasn't at all sure it would polish, but with a ton of elbow grease it is finally shiny.

I love the little bowls too.  They are always so perfect for a ton of things.  Now I have 3 different sizes, small, medium and a large one I already had.

I thought this was a fabulous treasure also.  I love beautiful decanters and I use to have a few, but I have no idea what happened to them.  This one is stunning.

See the heavy carving on the sides and the bottom.  25% off the price marked - - - - - -

and since it is lead crystal by Towle, well worth it.  The stopper is beautifully carved also.  I found the same one online for $95.00.

All that for $18.70.

I think they are wonderful finds and I can't wait to start playing.

Have you found some real treasures lately?
