I received an email from a blogger - My 1929 Charmer - telling me she had linked to my party and wanted to leave a comment, but couldn't. It seems that if you don't have the form that allows someone to click "name/url" that several different kinds of hosted blogs are unable to comment on your posts.
This is the form you need for everyone to be able to leave a comment.
It's really easy to change your setting so this is the form that comes up.
1. click on Settings
2. click on comments
3. scroll down to where it says Comment Form Placement and click on Full Page
That's all there is to it. Also if you still have word verification, please turn it off. It isn't necessary since blogger has installed up to date spam detection and you are loosing tons of comments because people won't take the extra time it takes to go through this step. Also, some boxes pop up so slow after you leave a comment that you don't even know you are suppossed to do a word verification.
Two really simple fixes so you can receive all of the comments that fellow bloggers wish to leave you.

I think that is how mine is...I will check. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I went and updated mine!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this sharing this info. I know someone who tells me how frustrated she gets not being able to comment on certain blogs. They really are missing a lot of comments and visitors because if they are not able to participate, sometimes they just don't bother to come back.

Thank you Marty! Mine was not on the right settings! I have been so busy that I haven't had a post of in weeks so am not getting many comments anyways! Where did the summer go? I do hope it will slow a bit when fall gets here!
ReplyDeleteI made a pretty mantlescape and used that beautiful shell ball you made me! I am having the hardest time getting decent pictures of the mantle though. It is an area that just doesn't photograph as pretty as it really is. do you have an area like that?

Good Morning, Marty!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you posted this! Sometimes it is so hard to leave a comment on someone's blog that I just give up -- and move on... and that's too bad, because most of us really enjoy the comments we get.
I find it sometimes quite impossible to post a comment in some of the other blog platforms, like Wordpress and others I can't remember the names of!
As for word verification, it's so not needed anymore. I get a spam comment maybe once a month, if that, because of Blogger's excellent spam screening.
What really cracks me up are the blogs were you jump thru the hoop of word verification, only to see that your comment will also have to be approved by the owner.
Now that's someone who wears suspenders AND a belt!
Let's all take off the word verification, and make it EASY to comment!
GREAT post ...
and, to add to this LONG comment, I just did my tour of your house, from the page link at the top of your blog -- what fun! What a wonderful layout -- excellent use of space and I can see that you can entertain beautifully there.
Lovely!
Cass
That's a great tip Marty. Thank you. I will check.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I'd love to comment on some blogs, but have to move over to Safari from Foxfire to do so. I don't always have time to mess with that, so I just skip it. I wish I could shout your post from the blogger roof top!
ReplyDeleteYou're a STAR!!!
I'm re-posting you on my blog if that's OK.
Thanks Marty, I checked mine and in the "Who can comment?" box was set for "Registered users only". I changed it to "Anyone" and now my comment box looks like yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
THANK YOU!! Nuff said :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gail

ReplyDeleteThanks, I have been having people who try and leave comments and there computer won't let them. I had no ideal what to do about it. I have just did this, so let's hope it works. Thanks for sharing. Richard at My Old Historic House.
ReplyDeleteBoth great tips! I have been an anti verification blogger for awhile now and have had no problems.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marty, I changed mine.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info. I went and updated mine too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marty!
ReplyDeleteOh my!! Thank you Marty! I've been wondering why some people said they couldn't leave comments!!

OMGoodness, I didn't know about this! I am going to check my blog and see if it is set up correctly! I don't get that many comments so I ahve been wondering why...... Thanks again, Marty! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteThat's the form that I use on my blog, so I guess I'm just not getting comments...lol. Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteMarty, I just checked and I wasn't set up like this!!! I changed it, so THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!XOXO
ReplyDeleteMy form was okay, I've put word verification off for now to see if the Blogger spam filter is any better. I have to say that I had it on because I do not want other people coming to comment to accidently click on a link in a spammers post and end up with a virus or trojan. I'll monitor and if I get too much spam it's going back on!
ReplyDeleteI just checked and mine was not set up this way. Thanks.
ReplyDeletethanks!
ReplyDeleteRegarding commenting, I don't understand why bloggers have their comment page open up in a totally different page and not a pop-up window. As a pop-up window, readers won't be navigating away from the blog. To comment and then go back and forth is time consuming. Just an fyi . . .
ReplyDeleteI agree that I do like the pop up windows. They are so much easier. I'v always been verification free.
ReplyDeleteI like your new header, Marty!
Thank you so much Mary for the info! I am still learning all the best ways to do things on my blog & appreciate any advice I can get! Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
Thanks Marty! I just went and corrected my blog. I'm slowly getting all tuned up.
ReplyDeleteWhat about letting anonymous people leaving comments? Is that a good idea, or is there some pitfall with that?

Thanks for the tip, Marty! I haven't had any complaints, but mine wasn't set to full page so who knows how many thousands of comments I might have missed! lol

Thanks Marty. I was set on pop up window and have now made the change...it is a SIN to lose comments so appreciate the heads up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome tip. I decided to check what my settings were at and as it turned out mine were wrong...yikes! Thanks for the heads up...I'm all fixed now.
ReplyDeleteAs a brand-new blogger, I found this tip very helpful. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis is great information for those who dont know what they have.. I went to several sites posted on your Tablescape Tuesday and there was no
ReplyDeletePOST COMMENT at all.. I looked all over their page and even went to their HOME page and nope- no where to click so I could post a comment.
Sure wish I could have as I enjoyed their display and my visit very much and now they'll never know I was there and wanted to leave complimentary words..
YOU being bloggy savvy might be able to find out what it is they dont have set up and do a post on that so hopefully they'd see it.
thanks for always being so helpful to all of us.
Sonny
Marty, Thanks for the info! I am on my way to check mine. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletexo,
Sherry
Super great post Marty!! I have left comments and clicked away only to see the WV window pop up as I am logging out of a blog...I rarely go back and enter my comment.
ReplyDeleteI have told several people this, but I still have trouble leaving comments on so many blogs. If you don't mind, I want to copy this and post it on my blog. Balisha
ReplyDeleteMy friend referred me your site. It looks like everyone knows about it, just not me:) until now. I'm going to read your other posts. Keep sharing...
ReplyDeleteJust started following. I hope I changed the setting on all my blogs correctly. I agree, I never have the word thing set. I hate doing that and have stopped commenting on some pages because of it.
