My Hubby came in all excited and announced "I brought you a treasure". Then he layed this down in front of me. My question was "What is it?" "It's a pod of course was his reply." Hummmmmm
Next question "What are the seeds and what do they grow up to be?" "It's Caesalpinia regia".

Now I am use to him giving me the Botanical name of everything and so I humor him for a few minutes and then I ask him to please speak english.
Common Name = Royal Poinciana or Flame Tree or Peacock Flower
Gorgeous flowers and it will become a small tree. I really do hope his seeds grow, I would love this in the yard.
Before we were married he once gave me a brick, so I should have know that my life would be filled with unusual gifts. I think this one is a good one.

Awww, how romantic!
ReplyDeleteI have two of those plants growing in pots that my Man brought home from a trip to Phoenix about 5 years ago, they have been thriving in the Texas sun ever since. I'm glad to know the 'real' name of these beauties, he was told that they are Mexican Bird of Paradise.
Thanks Marty for inspiring me to use the pods as fall decor!
I have to say that was very thoughtful of your hubby Marty! It is neat.
ReplyDeleteI love it!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Marthy,
ReplyDeletewhat a nice idea of him and how amazing that he knew the name, too. It is not often that men are interesting ins plant names. Beautiful plant! I wish you that the seeds grow into huge treees with lots of that beautiful flowers. And you can tell your Grandkids once, this trees have been gifts of my hubby.
Best greetings, Johanna
My husband does this sort of thing too. Not necessarily things from nature but really random things. The Babe Ruth cookie jar comes to mind! I think it's nice that you will find a way to display it. It'll make him feel good. My cookie jar has lived on top of my refrig. since the day Babe stepped in my house!
ReplyDeleteOh I love this pod! It would make an interesting picture to hang on the wall.....a closeup like you have posted. A real conversation piece! Fabulous that your husband brings you neat little gifts like that!! And.....the plant is just beautiful! We all want seeds. LOL
ReplyDeleteBarb
Ah, everything begins with just one seed...
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Hope the seeds do well Marty, sounds like a great conversation piece-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteLOL! A brick? Now that's a story we may need to hear! :) it is an interesting looking pod and too hope the seeds grow into that gorgeous bush! Hubby's can be so funny! I'm still wondering about that brick! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
That is so interesting...it almost looks like it's made of wood!
ReplyDeleteYes, I want to hear about the brick too...the "cornerstone" of your life, maybe???? How sweet of him. It is so nice that he can still be romantic and thoughtful. My hubby is like that too. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI love it! Hope it grows for you.
ReplyDeleteMarty! You aren't gonna believe this but my step mother gave me two of those pods last spring! She got them in Texas. I have the seeds in a jar and was going to try and plant them this spring! I have a photo of what the pods look like on the tree she got them from if you want to see it. Isn't that funny!
ReplyDeleteRainey
That sounds a lot like something my husband would do!
ReplyDeleteWhat an unusual pod and how cute that he got it for you! I think it will look great in Fall displays. Nature is amazing.
ReplyDeleteHe's so sweet, your hubby, and hey, look at the flowers that will be blooming one day! Lots of hugs.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Such a beautiful tree! I would plant some now and leave outside. Some seeds need cold before they germinate, so I would put some on the fridge and plant them in the spring. I don't know if it gets cold in the winter where you live, if it does just planting them in pots will work. If you leave them outside, they will come up in the spring. Of course you may have to water if you don't get winter rain.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet. The last thing my husband brought me was a Robin's egg he found on the ground a couple of days after a storm. No nest in sight.
ReplyDeleteI hope your Flamboyant/poinciana grows. It's a gorgeous tree.
Oh they are so beautiful. One of The Highwaymen, Sam Newton, once told me he no longer paints Royal Poincianna trees because the vibrant color is hard on his eyes.
ReplyDelete~Ames
Ah, what a romantic guy! Love your flower pod.
ReplyDeleteI had only know my husband for two weeks when he gave me a spice rack and a blender. He said the spice rack was free with the blender.
Gotta love a guy like that!
hugs
Sissie
How sweet for your husband to bring that to you! My hubby isn't a gift giver of any kind. Not even at Christmas...I take that back. One year he bought me some singing insects. Oh, and a pen. :-)
ReplyDeleteI sure hope the tree grows for you! It's going to be beautiful!!
Hi Marty, I awarded you a "Butterfly Award" - please pop over to my blog to see your award! I love your blog and appreciate your comments on mine! :)

Hi Marty,
ReplyDeletePerhaps a shadow box! Fun that you get fun and unusual gifts. Can't wait to see what becomes of it. liz
Hi Marty...
ReplyDeleteOhhh...what a beautiful plant and flower! I have never seen one before. The seed pods really are pretty...love the color and texture! I'm sure you will find an awesome way to display that pretty little pod!
Girlfriend, I just giggled while reading this post! A bean pod is a bit of a strange gift...but sooo much fun! I have to tell you that my birthday was last Saturday. Friday evening after work, honey came bearing birthday gifts for me. He brought me a beautiful fresh floral arrangement in the prettiest pitcher, a sweet card, and a turtle! Yep...you read that right! Hehe! He found a turtle trying to cross the road as he was traveling home from work. Of course, he had to stop and pick it up...thought it would be the perfect birthday gift! And...he was right! I have a feeling that years from now...I may forget the gift of flowers but I guarantee you...I won't forget the turtle gift! Hehe! Gotta love our guys...right? Just had to share that with you, my friend!
Hope you're having a wonderful day!
Love ya,
Chari
