My Hubby came in all excited and announced "I brought you a treasure". Then he layed this down in front of me. My question was "What is it?" "It's a pod of course was his reply." Hummmmmm
Next question "What are the seeds and what do they grow up to be?" "It's Caesalpinia regia".
Now I am use to him giving me the Botanical name of everything and so I humor him for a few minutes and then I ask him to please speak english.
Common Name = Royal Poinciana or Flame Tree or Peacock Flower
Gorgeous flowers and it will become a small tree. I really do hope his seeds grow, I would love this in the yard.
Before we were married he once gave me a brick, so I should have know that my life would be filled with unusual gifts. I think this one is a good one.

ReplyDeleteI have two of those plants growing in pots that my Man brought home from a trip to Phoenix about 5 years ago, they have been thriving in the Texas sun ever since. I'm glad to know the 'real' name of these beauties, he was told that they are Mexican Bird of Paradise.

I wish you that the seeds grow into huge treees with lots of that beautiful flowers. And you can tell your Grandkids once, this trees have been gifts of my hubby.

My husband does this sort of thing too. Not necessarily things from nature but really random things. The Babe Ruth cookie jar comes to mind! I think it's nice that you will find a way to display it. It'll make him feel good. My cookie jar has lived on top of my refrig. since the day Babe stepped in my house!

I have the seeds in a jar and was going to try and plant them this spring! I have a photo of what the pods look like on the tree she got them from if you want to see it. Isn't that funny!

Such a beautiful tree! I would plant some now and leave outside. Some seeds need cold before they germinate, so I would put some on the fridge and plant them in the spring. I don't know if it gets cold in the winter where you live, if it does just planting them in pots will work. If you leave them outside, they will come up in the spring. Of course you may have to water if you don't get winter rain.

Girlfriend, I just giggled while reading this post! A bean pod is a bit of a strange gift...but sooo much fun! I have to tell you that my birthday was last Saturday. Friday evening after work, honey came bearing birthday gifts for me. He brought me a beautiful fresh floral arrangement in the prettiest pitcher, a sweet card, and a turtle! Yep...you read that right! Hehe! He found a turtle trying to cross the road as he was traveling home from work. Of course, he had to stop and pick it up...thought it would be the perfect birthday gift! And...he was right! I have a feeling that years from now...I may forget the gift of flowers but I guarantee you...I won't forget the turtle gift! Hehe! Gotta love our guys...right? Just had to share that with you, my friend!
