Since my home is builder basic bland, the bathroom cabinets are pretty basic too. We do at least have 3 drawers, but they are really small. Trying to make it functional has been a challenge.
With most of the available storage being behind those doors, I really needed some kind of organization.
Today as I was cleaning, I thought I would show you my really inexpensive solution. Plastic storage drawers from Big Lots. This is DH's side of the vanity, and these storage bins work really well to keep his toiletry items at easy reach.
I got the ones with the small drawers for my side. No more digging through things to find what I need.
In the process, this is one of two bags of things that needed to go to the trash. No tiny bits of something left in a bottle and way out of date.
Nothing earth shattering, but it sure feels good to have this area all clean and organized. So, how do you manage to keep all of your necessary things under control?

ReplyDeletethat is a fantastic idea to put that unit it the cabinet! mind if I copy?
ReplyDeleteKaren
Oh, this makes me happy...because I can do it too!!! Great idea!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Haven
What a great idea! I've thought about doing the same thing, but haven't yet. We have the double sinks with the drawers in the center like you do.
ReplyDeleteI hope I can make it work like you did. The pipes in the sink below may not give me the clearance I need, but think we'll give it a try!
Thanks for reminding me I need to do this! :-)
I love this!!! I've been trying to think of a solution, because I have big baskets that hold everything on each side, but they're just a contained mess! I'm going to measure mine and see what I can do. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteBe Blessed!
How I envy you for the storage problem you have! I have a small condo with two bathrooms. Both bathrooms have pedestal sinks. I knew when I bought the condo those sinks were going to be a problem. And what a problem they are. Both bathrooms are small (tiny) and there's no room for a floor shelf, and I'm not much for putting shelves over the toilet, because I'm one of those people that would hit my head every time. So I've bought the rolling storage drawers similar to the ones you have. I have one in my bathroom between my pedestal sink and the toilet. There's nothing in the guest bathroom. Thank goodness I don't have guests often. But not having a cabinet in the bathroom causes such problems...where to put the toothbrush and toothpaste, brush, hair dryer, makeup, all those things we need while we're standing at the sink. Be grateful you have the "problems" you have.
ReplyDeleteHi Marty...
ReplyDeleteI'm with Deborah (the above comment)...I envy your amount of bathroom storage, my friend! I have a very small antique like vanity in my master bath...and just a pedestal sink in our main bath. Storage is always a challenge! I love this idea you came up with though! I have seen the plastic storage bins/drawers at the store...they really do offer a great solution for storage and organization! Thanks for sharing this great tip with us today, sweet friend!
Love ya,
Chari
Marty, wish mine were neat and organized like yours. I need to tackle that job or you could come do it for me.
ReplyDeletegreat to be organised!! one of those little screw in baskets for the back of the right hand side door could maxamise your space further!
ReplyDeleteNice organizing job!!
ReplyDeleteI do exactly the same thing! I use the bins in many areas of the house.
I've been trying to come up with something similar for pull-out drawers and I don't think I'll ever find anything. :( Our new house master bathroom only has drawers -- NO cabinet. I love the look but hate the functionality of it.
Marty, this is a riot: I did the exact same thing today!!!! My hubby built our vanities and we have the same basic set up: 4 center drawers and 2 cabinets. I have the wire racks in there with plastic bins on them. I like YOUR solution MUCH better! I will be going tomorrow to get some drawer bins!!!! I am so glad you posted this! I also cleaned out my dresser drawers today. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeletePS, I also have wire racks on the DOORS of the cabinets to hold my hairspray and hair products and on DH's side he holds his after shave and deodorant etc.
ReplyDeleteMarty I have some of the same drawers in my antique vanity in the front bath. I have no drawers just a door that opens to underneath so these were a great answer to my problem too. It really helps out a lot. You are a cleaning machine, Miss Marty, love you,Kathysue
ReplyDeleteVery, Very, Very Good Idea!!!
ReplyDelete"When" I copy you... : )
I will for sure hesitate to show the before... It is a mess under there...
Thanks for sharing
Good for you!
ReplyDeleteWill you come help get me organized?!
I need a few rainy days and a kick to get me started...LOL
Thanks for sharing great tips!
Excellent solution, Marty. I love organization and I live in a home full of slobs :o) Poor La.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to stop by my blog this week to enter my giveaway.
Have a great day! La
Exactly the same way....seriously...except mt hairspray and stuff container is a basket and not plastic...but the rest are!!
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing! Plus I use baskets too. I put command hooks on the edge of the counter at my vanity and hang my hair dryer and curling iron on them. That works great too!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
That was the perfect solution Marty and it's so neat and organized!! Now you can come and tackle mine LOL! Martina
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your organizational skills, Marty...always inspiring!! I use bright plastic baskets in my vanity and the only problem is cleaning out the old stuff in the back once in awhile. So your post reminded me to do that! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Great idea....how organized you are!
ReplyDeleteI need to add some of those to my cabinets. I do not know how I can get so much stuff piled into a drawer....Sure makes getting dressed a little harder...I'm looking for a easier way and I think you have taken care of that for me...
Shug
I absolutely love organizing in bins. There is something about a cabinet full of matching bins that just makes me smile! Well done and great post.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that organizing feels so good? I organize my bathroom vanity the same way, with plastic bins.
ReplyDeleteLove those plastic storage bins...use them to control a lot of paper clutter (with one son still in school we accumulate a lot of paper!). I also have the large ones for Christmas decorations They are really great for storing and stacking! They're also great for sliding under the bed if you're short on space. Love your comment "it takes a ton of putty and spackle at my age"...too funny!
ReplyDeleteI never thought to put those in my cabinets, but it is a great idea. Sometimes I am scared to open the cabinet doors for fear of the stuff flying out onto the floor.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas Marty!
ReplyDeleteI need to try some of those in my bathroom because it's small and not much storage.
Hugs friend,
Cindy
Cleaning out is so therapeutic Marty...great job and so much easier to find all your goodies now....xv
ReplyDeleteI never thought of those drawers. You are a very resourceful person!
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom cabinets and drawers are almost a mirror image of mine ... I understand about making the most of the space and your organizers are perfect !! I have the three drawer kind on my side for all of my makeup addictions! Love how I can take a clorox wipe and give them a quick cleanup, too !! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI did exactly the same thing in both our bath cabinets. I also used the shoebox-size similar containers stacked in the floor space of our narrow linen closet. Works great!
ReplyDeleteI did this very thing last week doesn't it make you feel good?!
ReplyDeleteHi Marty,
ReplyDeleteYou made the bathroom look so much better than the builder left it! I have builder grade cabinets, too, and always struggle with how to make them look nicer. Great job! I can't even comment on the state of UNDERNEATH the vanity, uuuugh!
Stacy
Fantastic idea! The bathroom is so organized! You did a great job! Beautiful vanity. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you on my blog:)
I try...but don't always succeed. We have separate bathrooms, so I don't have to share. They aren't large baths (we were builder basic bland too-love that title) but at least we don't have to worry about the other one's things. I have open small tubs under mine.
ReplyDeleteMarty, Great idea. It drivs me crazy to have to dig for my stuff at the bottom of the cabinet. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletexo,
Sherry
Hi lovely lady.
ReplyDeleteI love your bathroom you have it so organizers with the underneath the vanity !!This was a Great Idea I'am going to do this also. I love coming over to your linky parties. I hope you have a Great Week.
XXOO Diane
Hanging cabinets and organizers would also help! It would be nice to keep everything in place since cluttered things aren't pleasant to the eyes. The bathroom is often used, that's why it should be kept clean at all times.
