Remember when I showed you that I wanted to change the familyroom drapes from being tied back to hanging straight and put a contrasting fabric at the top. Well life got in the way and it never happened. Finally
I was ready to get the job done.

So they will have a custom look, I wanted to find a tassel or braid trim to edge the top fabric.

By adding this small trim to the livingroom drapes, they have a designer custom look.
So I went on the hunt for the perfect trim and almost fainted at how expensive trims have gotten. There were tons of styles to choose from, however since most of the prices started at $6.95 to $10.95 yd and up and I needed 13 yards, I just about fainted. Even my discount fabric store that I love didn't have anything for less than $5.95 yd. I finally decided to go online and see what I could find. Of course there are tons of styles and sizes, plus multitudes of colors to choose from.

This style became a candidate at $3 a yd.

This one could also work for $3, however both seemed a little too formal for the look I wanted.

After much searching, I finally found this one. It comes in the perfect color of Antique gold and is 1 1/4 wide and for a price of $2.29 yd. it was the perfect answer. Ordered and on the way, the drapes will get started next week.

For a designer custom look, add a little trim to your drapes. Just go online and you will find quite a few that are affordable.
Thanks for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.

Isn't it amazing when you haven't shopped for something in a long long time how the price has just skyrocketed. And, you almost fall over in disbelief. Trims are so expensive, I did the same thing you did. How funny. The price of fabric is another wowzer. What use to be 2.99 or so...is now 9 and 10 bucks. Crazy. I'm always in shock. Have a wonderful day....

Marty,
ReplyDeleteIt paid you to be persistent. I get discouraged at all the high prices too. Everything has gone through the roof. Our thrifty ways will surely help now!
I really like the trim you chose and can't wait to see it on your drapes. You do such fabulous work and everything always looks so tastefully done. Your blog will always be a favorite of mine!
Blessings to you,
Kathy
I can't wait to see how they turn out. They'll be beautiful, I'm sure!

Ms. Marty,
ReplyDeleteI love that trim! I have to tell you my online trim buying disaster.
I bid on 3 new yards of tassel trim with beading off Ebay and won it for like $5.25 with $4 shipping and handeling...I've bid and ordered online before and never had a problem but I got it in the mail and opened it up and you could just smell the smoke. It was like an ashtray! I even went back to the description and it said smoke and pet free environment! I guess it wasn't such a bargin after all but we've been trying to air it out and get that smell out.....fingers crossed!
I can't wait to see your new drapes! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
That was a really great idea Marty! They do look custom!
ReplyDeleteTrim is so daggone expensive. Great idea!

Hi Marty....drapes are beautiful...my secret for trim??? I look at the drapes, curtains, etc. at Goodwill...sometimes the trim is worth more than the item it is on!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Marty! Love your drapes and how smart of you to search around for the trim. It's a shame sometimes it can cost as much as the fabric! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful and I can't wait to see it attached.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Love those drapes you did...and I bet these will look just as gorgeous...good thing I don't sew...I couldn't afford it! lol Hope you are having a great Sunday sweetie...Picket
ReplyDeleteHey Marty...I love trim and ribbon. I try to use it whenever I can. I just trimmed some Big Lots grommet panels with wide grosgrain ribbon and it's amazing how good they look, especially after I ironed them! This is a great post. Hope you have a good week...~Ann
ReplyDeleteYes, trim can be pricey. I love what you chose. The one before it is what I put on my drop cloth drapes in the guest room except I used the brown.
ReplyDeleteI will be anxious to see the final look!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty trim choices. Can't wait to see the drapes when they're finished. I had the idea I wanted to make tassels for gifts and then priced the trim and decided it would be less expensive just to buy one ready made. Plus, I'm lazy. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteBabs
It's all in the details isn't it Marty? I know they'll look great!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your finished project. I'm just not good at this kind of thing. I tried to put some trim on a new lampshade and ruined it...had to throw it away and get another one. I left it as it came:)
ReplyDeleteI just love trim, and I too find it amazing how expensive it is. I had no idea you could find it online! Don't know why I never thought to look for it online, but I never did. I'm sure glad you shared that tip! It'll be fun to see how your draperies look after you add that custom touch!
ReplyDeleteYou are so good in sewing drapery, Marty. This is so pretty....Christine
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Marty! Small change and BIG impact. I think it looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThey are gonna be more beautiful than they are now Marty.. cant wait to see the final result..

I can't wait to see how they turn out. I'm sure they will be gorgeous. Looking forward to the transformation.
ReplyDeleteHi Marty! They are going to be just gorgeous! I think it is those little touches that give things a much more custom look. Like trim on a pillow, adding some to window treatments are the perfect finish. :-)
ReplyDeleteVanessa
It's so much more affordable than starting from scratch and you can find anything from highly ornate to sleek and simple online.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea, Marty! The price of trim is a little disconcerting, but since "someday" I'll be ready for some new window treatments, this tip is really something to keep in mind. Thanks for sharing it! Bess
ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteI adore the trim you've selected! Although life does have a way of sneaking up on us. . .I'll be anxiously awaiting the reveal of your designer drapes! Thanks for your sweet visit recently! See you tomorrow for TT!
Fondly,
Pat
Oh Marty, your drapes are already beautiful, and that trim will just set them off perfectly! Can't wait to see. laurie
ReplyDeleteHi Marty, great idea to add the trim and yes, the prices are crazy. I do a lot of sewing and sometimes find that the trim is more expensive than the fabric. A lot of times I will find beautiful trims at garage sales, believe it or not! And our Walmart out here has a fabric section with a limited selection of trims but then are very nice and CHEAP! Can't wait to see your finished drapes!
ReplyDeleteMarianne :)
That's going to make such a nice difference. I used to own & operate a custom sewing workroom & always had to kept a very large quantity of various fringes. They've retained their popularity over the years & even gained enthusiasts as beautiful fringes have been more readily available for anyone to purchase. I love that the internet has made it so much more affordable. Can't wait to see how they turn out. Lovely, I already know.

P.S. How is your grandson doing? Healing nicely & quickly, I hope.
Looks really elegant.
