I scored the neatest treasure on Ebay last week, and today it arrived. I am so excited, I just love it.
Look, it's one of the coveted English Butter Slabs. I know you guys have seen these, there is the round one like this one and then a square one. I have drooled a million times over the square one that Sherry @ No Minimalist Here shows in her header. However at $139.99 I am just too frugal to spend that much money.
But just look at this beauty I won on Ebay for $50.00 Yip-Skip!!!!
I keep my oils and my salt and pepper grinders by the stove and use them daily. They are perfect sitting on the Butter Slab. (I need to make a trip to Trader Joe, I'm out of the course salt.)
Now doesn't it finish off this section of the counter just perfectly.
Ok, Ceekay, I know you are about to cry. I will share. Maybe we'll find another one on Ebay.
Thanks for stopping by, I just couldn't wait to show you my treasure.

Great SCORE! Love the vignette. Cherry Kay

ReplyDeleteGreat score. I have a couple of these too that I found on Ebay, although it's rare that you can find them there. Love how it looks on your counter with your oils and pepper grinder. I use mine the same way, next to my stove with vinegars and oils at the ready.
ReplyDeleteOh Marty that is a score!! I've always loved Sherry's and Joni's! I always keep my eyes open for an old one that won't break the bank, but so far nada. Okay, I'm going to put myself out there & hope I'm not the only one who has never heard of a butter slab. Could you please explain the history of these "treasures" to the uninformed? I really like it, and I think the way you are using yours is great.

ReplyDeleteCAS
Well, since CAS said it, so will I am painfully ignorant about these. You should tell us the history of these....and what makes them so expensive! :) It sounds as if you got a good deal. Thanks for your visit--"Grandma" would be just fine with me. I'm so happy I won't care what he calls me!
ReplyDeleteYou did good. I have always admired them, but I don't have any more counter space to decorate.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend.
I "googled" butter slab and finally found a 1/2 buter slab....like yours, but only one-half. It said it was from England and dated about 1920. Were they used to form the shape of the butter? Neat find.....love it and it looks fantastic on your counter top.
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous!! I LOVE your kitchen and you accessorize it beautifully! XOXO ~Liz
ReplyDeleteOh so cool! Love it. Kit

Hi Marty, I'm wondering if you would share what you put in the selection box on EBAY for the English Butter Slab? I've been searching for eons and cannot locate one on there. I appreciate all your help. Hugs Lynne
