Ok, I keep looking at my familyroom and breakfastroom drapes and I think they need to be changed. When I first made them, I just shirred them on rods and tied them back. But now I think that the tiebacks are not so great. This is what it's looked like tied back, and I need your help and opinion.

I bought some rings and hung them straight. They will need to be re-hemmed, so I've only changed the breakfastroom window so far. What do you think? Does it look more updated with them hanging straight?
OK, so here's the question!!! THIS

straight down looks great in yor cool room

I say hang them straight and what if you added a flat fabric trim to the edges? There are some that have a cream background with beige accents. That could add some interest to what you already have. I think with a monocromatic palate you have to have several different textures to keep it interesting. This might just be the ticket.
ReplyDeleteI think they definitely look more fresh and modern hanging straight! Sometimes just a small change can make a big difference!
ReplyDeleteI love them hanging straight!!!

I like the new look--hanging straight.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I love your centerpieces! Your tables always look so pretty.
Have a great day.

I like them straight,Having worked in custom decor for sometime.I agree with the edge trim. Love the rings also.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely straight. Updates the room and actually opens up the window more.
ReplyDeleteI like the updated straight look but as Amanda says, some textured trim on the edges would be interesting and not so expensive to do either.
ReplyDeleteHi Marty, I would leave them straight down. Love the new look.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day,
Gail
Well, count me as the oddball. I think the room looks "friendlier" with them pulled back. Of course, I'm unable to make any decision about window coverings :) Cheryl
ReplyDeleteGo for straight Marty, looks really good. The tied back thing is too dated right now...
ReplyDeleteStraight --
ReplyDeleteStraight for sure....
ReplyDeleteI love them both ways but I like it with the rings alot!
ReplyDeleteI love doing windows and make all of my own window treatments, and certainly need to update some of mine, also. The windows with the drapes hanging straight add a tailored dimension to the rooms in my opinion. I am wondering if you have any fabric that matches some you are using in these rooms left over. A wide band of fabric attached with rope cording or a pretty decorator fringe between the band of new fabric and the drapes would add some interest. If you do not have any existing fabric, then find a new one and make some throw pillows to tie it all together....also, recover a matt on a picture in the same fabric.
ReplyDeleteI say straight :)
ReplyDeleteStraight looks so much more updated. I liked it before when it was pulled back, but I LOVE it straight. It changes the whole look of your room. My vote - Straight.
ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely home you have, dear friend! Your drapes are lovely, but even more so without the tie backs! I'd say straight is just fine. . .adore the rings at the top! I did the same thing when I switched out the toile in the office and added heaftier wrought iron rods. (Similar to yours!)Thank you for asking for our opinions and aid. . .we always like to help!
Fondly,
Pat
P.S. I've found that many times just photographing a room "sheds some light"on my decor dilemma. Almost like another pair of eyes! Ha!
They look great hanging straight, and yes, more current. Leave them alone or add a band of cream/neutral fabric along the edge to add some interest. Lovely, cozy home!
ReplyDeleteI like them hanging straight, and agree about the edge trim.
ReplyDeleteHI Marty! I like your drapes hanging straight! Maybe you could hang them from rings!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi Marty,
ReplyDeleteThe straight draperies look great! I would carry that look around your rooms. I love how you have them raised higher towards the ceiling too! ~ Susie
Hi Marty, I prefer them hanging straight, more of an updated look. I might suggest hanging them from rings and putting on a wide band of solid fabric to co-ordinate with your decor for more of a custom look. The question is, which do you prefer? lol.. Looking forward to seeing what you do..

never loved rings but do like them hanging straight
ReplyDeletenever loved rings but do like them hanging straight
ReplyDeleteHanging straight!
ReplyDeleteHi Marty, I LOVE them hanging straight with the rings, it gave them an updated look. I use curtain rings all over now even on the sheers hanging in my girls rooms, I think it gives it a nicer look. That's just me. Have a great one, Martina
ReplyDeleteHi there Marty, I like them both ways. But if you leave them straight I would get a thicker rod in the same color as you have. With them tied back it's more formal and with them straight the space is more casual But either way your home is still beautiful.
ReplyDeletePattie
I like them straight, Marty! It seems to open the window up more and, even though it might be just a little bit, it appears to let in more natural light.
ReplyDeleteYes! Straight looks great and more updated.
ReplyDeleteI love the new straight look for your panels!!
ReplyDeleteI think they look best hanging straight and from the rings. It's ok if they break on the floor too !
ReplyDeleteI am joining the majority with a vote for straight Marty.
ReplyDeleteI also like them straight.
ReplyDeleteStraight,, straight...
ReplyDeletethey look more modern this way!
Room looks great!
Sandy
No tie backs, amazing what a big difference that little change has made.
ReplyDeleteI like them both ways, but if I were to use them straight, have you given any thoughts to using the new smocked topper/valances? I don't know where to buy just the toppers. but I've seen the complete curtains locally and they are burlap/linen type and would be awesome in your beautiful home!

Looks like the straights have it! I vote straight and like the idea of maybe adding a little contrasting fabric to them - I am just wondering if there maybe a way to do that and make it so you could change out the fabric when you like- kindof like your pillows. HMMM will have to think on that one.
ReplyDeleteNeed to get packin to head to NM for my Mom's 75th birthday! Will be nice to get out of this snow for a little bit!

Marty, I think the straight ones are the way to go but I think you should add some fabric to contrast with them. Either add about a foot of a print to the top or maybe a 4 in band to the edge. The walls, sofa and drapes all look very similar in color, this will give them a little pop of color.
ReplyDeleteI really like them hanging straight. It's amazing how such a small thing can completely change the look of the room. I just love all the light you have in your family room! Kat
ReplyDeleteRings, definitely. I need to do the same thing. Your picture convinced me. Seems a very frugal way to update, thank goodness!

Such a simple change but a huge impact! I really like them straight. Can't wait to see them all :)
ReplyDeleteI vote for straight Marty! They look really nice.
