Then I added white beadboard to the backs and it made such a huge difference, no longer a dark hole.

I decided to try and declutter the bookcases, and come up with something that resembled more of a library look. I've found quite a few books at GW lately, and I really wanted something with a little more "simple" look. Minimalism is just not my thing as you all know, but I am trying. (Now pretend that you don't see the sander in the corner by the sliding door. I am working on a project that I will show you later.) lol
I've found quite a few pitchers and jars lately, so I thought I would display them with the books. The yellow and green one on the second shelf is one I repainted that was cracked and stained.
Thanks so much for stopping by, I always look forward and appreciate your visits.
Today I am linking up to Before and After with Kim @ Savvy Southern Style. Be sure to visit her and see all the wonderful things that are taking place all over blogland. Seems like everyone is redoing something. Very inspiring and fabulous eye candy.

ReplyDeleteGreat job on the beadboard, Marty! It gives it so much character.
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to do "less is more" but you nailed the library look with the new books and pottery. I once again must say I am smitten with the bunnies. ♥O
ReplyDeleteI really like the library look - very pretty and classic (think that is the word I want to say). :D
ReplyDeleteHi Marty~ Your bookcase looks wonderful- the beadboard backing is perfect and really lightens it up. I am loving the bunny print too, and the birdcage on top, okay, and the books...pretty much think it all looks beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a nice piece of furniture, Marty! I love the detail it has. You did a great job and I love how you have just the right amount of accessories to books. I don't think it looks cluttered at all. I always love to see that little bunny print ~ I think {subconsciously} I'm looking for one of my own when I'm out shopping in home stores!
ReplyDeleteI love this entertainment center, because it has lots of added appeal to the wood. Scrollwork, etc. I especially like it now with the backs lighter. I so need to do this with some bookcases I have. And your "minimalist" approach is very professional-looking! (Neither you or I could be labeled minimalist, I don't think.)
ReplyDeleteBrenda
You come up with some of the best ideas, Marty. I love that you used the bead board for the back of the shelves and now arranging books on the shelves gives the entertainment center a whole new look.
ReplyDeleteLove your pottery pieces and the bunny print is beautiful! Very French!
Xo,
Jane

I love the white beadboard..it looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThe more books, the better.
Thanks for sharing your pretty work.
Marty, I am a big believer in having books everywhere. I just think it makes a home so inviting. Your shelves look so pretty (I need to do a lot of editing on my shelves-maybe this post will inspire me). I'm always inspired with how clever you are to paint jugs, pitchers, etc. and give them a whole new look. I never think of doing something like that. laurie
ReplyDeleteHi Marty,
ReplyDeleteEverything looks beauitful and elegant, as usual...I love the white beadboard you added to the backs of the book shelves. Oh and love, love, love your bunny picture. Have a wonderful day.
Hugs and Kisses,
♥Ana
It does look more library-ish that way. And the white beadboard makes a huge difference. I may have to try that.
ReplyDeleteHi Marty,
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job with your makeover! Or should I say your series of makeovers? You've shared so many ideas and projects here -- all beautifully done! I think being a minimalist is highly overrated -- you've struck a perfect balance here ... tastefully done.
Have a great rest of the week!
Bill
I love how you experiment with your living room decorations. I am in England so for me it is even more interesting, I suppose, to get an exclusive look into your home. I love to see what's different and how you change the themes from time to time. I love to see what books you are reading and what plants you have on show. All very fascinating. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Star
I really love the addition of the white beadboard! Such a great look! You are SO creative!
ReplyDeleteThat little bunny picture jumped out at me! So precious!
Love,
Sue
What a terrific idea to brighten that up! I love it and I may steal it (the idea that is).
ReplyDeleteI really like the new look, Marty. But, then, everything always looks so good in your home. You have such a knack.
ReplyDeleteCAS
Marty, I love the beadboard on the back wall of the shelves! I have a cabinet in my kitchen with class doors, and I have been thinking of lightening up the back wall, but was worried about painting the wood. Now I can see that I would like the look! Thanks! Linda
ReplyDeleteYour shelves look great Marty. I'm a big fan of changing the background in bookshelves.
ReplyDelete-Rene
Love the changes, I love your pottery, so soothing.
ReplyDeleteI think your new "do" looks great and is much more a library feel. You really have a knack with accessories!
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet to stop by and leave a comment. Thank you!!
I don't like too many things in one place (in my house-it looks great in everyone elses) so I like the new look better. I think you captured the look you were going for!
