Small Changes to the Cabinet Top Displays

I don't change the tops of my cabinets around very much, mainly because I have a lot of big items up there and I don't have anywhere else to put them.  I did make a tiny change this week when I got up there and
cleaned.  Sorry for the poor picture quality.  Either the huge track lights (which I hate) or making a glare or I have to use the flash and it makes a glare too. This is what the cabinets have looked for a while.

And this is the after.  I moved the picture and replaced it with a couple of old crocks and some more tin cans.

I love old crocks, and tins and use to have a really large collection.  I still have a few that are fun to decorate with.

I've had this old crock and the whiskey jug for years.

I like to stack tin cans and the colors of these two work well against the dark walls.

Change is always good, and this gives me a few different things to look at.

The rooster tole tray had been hanging on the wall above the pantry door.  Then I took it down and used it in part of the counter display.  (You can see it in the pic below.)  That left the wall blank and of course I couldn't have that.

I love having it on the counter for a change.  I think it shows up more.  Love the colors.

Gotta' have something to go above the door.  The needlepoint had been there before, so I just put it back.  I think it shows up better there than the tray did anyway.

That's it.  Not very much, but it's still fun to play.

Thanks so much for your visits, I always look forward to you stopping by.

I wish I had the space above my cabinets to decorate. I did in my other home and I loved it. Now I have to find other spaces to put my vignettes. I love how you changed it up. That tray is really pretty and so nice on the counter!

Well I like the new and improved, but I liked the old and beautiful as well. I really love the little vignette in the corner!!

You have a beautiful kitchen Marty.

Marty, I always love to see what others do with the space above the cabinets. I too have that "dust collecting area". But, what better time to rearrange when you clean. I see we share the same picture in the breakfast room. The old man saying grace. I've featured that one before on a post.
I love it!

I love the changes you made. They are just right and I agree - the needlework shows up very well above the pantry door. Now, if I just had open cabinets and a pantry. . .hmmm, think of the fun I could have!

I love your taste. You are drawn to the same kinds of things that I am. LOVE those old tins and crocks up there.

And I do agree that the needlepoint looks pretty over the door. It's very different there and stands out.

Hi Marty! Your collection of old tins are wonderful. I love the graphics on them. I especially like the Tea bin over your fridge and the Whiskey Jug. Everything looks wonderful!

I thought it was great before & I'm still thinking it's great. You and several others here in blogland are starting to peak my interest in the whole chicken/rooter thing. It looks like a truly fun collection to start.

PS Thank you, Marty, for your nice comments. I wasn't fishing for a compliment, but I truly appreciated it anyway.

Marty, I love your "tweaks" in the kitchen! I helped my mother-in-law arrange her upper cabinets using very similar vintage items and it just adds so much character. Thanks for sharing it with us and now I know why I don't have anything displayed above my cabinets...cause then I would have to clean them! :-)

Yes, it's fun to play, and it's really fun to look at what you've been playing with! I love the way you make changes--it's one of the things I admire about you. I tend to get in ruts!

Hi Marty, I love your old tins and crocks! Changing the decor, even when we just move it around, makes it all seem new. When my hubby says, "is that new" I say no--I just moved it! :) Linda

Hi Marty, As always I love all of your choices; cabinet tops can be tricky if you have a good deal of space(I have 14' so have to use large pieces). I love the tin cans and I have several crocks I use too.
You have such a gift of decorating.
Hugs to you.

I love all your vintage stuff, Marty. Love the rooster tole tray. The needle point frame actually looks good above the door, it pops! I like both arrangements but I know how good it feels to change the look every now and then.....Christine

I love both the before and after! It is fun to play though. I have the same space above my cabinets and I keep all my very large bowls, cake plates and baskets up there. You have reminded me that I should clean it all!! ;-D

What a wonderful place to display your larger pieces. I'm with you, I'd be not so inclined to get up there and rattle things around on a regular basis. I do love where you put the rooster tole platter, having the basket of fruit almost makes the fruit on the platter look like it's bursting out into 3D form.

Your changes look very nice. My mom used to display bunches of antique tins. She's like you, she uses things for a while and then rotates them in or out for a change. I'll bet your guests just look and look when they visit your home.

I just got a space to decorate above my cabinets. I have too many ideas for the area. I guess I will be changing it out quite frequently.

I appreciate you stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. Comments make blogging fun.

It's always amazing how just switching things around makes everything fresh again. I really like your rooster touches--I may have to have a bright green one.

I haven't been over here in awhile as I haven't been blogging in 3 weeks or more. I just love your kitchen! It has such a warm, homey feel to it! I have decided to paint my kitchen a light shade of chocolate brown. It is good to see it in a kitchen so I have an idea of what it will look like! Thanks for sharing!

Oh Marty, that Ovaltine tin is great! Brings back some memories. And I love the "Grannie Taylor" whisky jug. What a find that was! The needlepoint does look so pretty above the door. I feel like I'm always changing something in my home, but when I look around to find something to post for Tabletop Tues., nothing seems to be photogenic. You always have something wonderful to show us. laurie

LOVE that "teas" box, & the Ovaltine tin. I change up twice a year & put up all my Dept. 56 houses at Christmas. Then I declare them Winter decorations, as they take so much time to put up, they stay there until Feb. - Mar.
Funny story though... a friend recently told me that they had a crock, similar to yours, on top of the cupboards for yrs. took it down & listed it on Ebay... It sold for $3000... they were very surprised to say the least.
You may want to check on it's value : )
