Foodie Friday - Bacon Quiche Lorraine

Today I am joining Michael @ Designs by Gollum for Foodie Friday.

Yesterday I showed you a tablescape for Sunday Brunch and said we would be serving Bacon Quiche. This is a favorite recipe that I love to use. The best part is you can have the bacon cooked in advance, the onions chopped and the cheese shredded , so when you come home from church it goes together in a snap. It is so good and I know you will truly love it.

Quiche Lorraine

Pastry for a 9 inch pie.

12 slices bacon, crisply fried and crumbled
1 cup shredded Swiss Cheese
1/2 cup fine chopped green onions
4 eggs
2 cups half and half
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tst. pepper

Sprinkle bacon, cheese and onion in pastry lined pie plate. Beat eggs slightly, beat in remaning ingredients. Pour egg mixture into pie plate. Cook uncovered in 425 oven 15 minutes.
Reduce oven temp. to 300. Cook uncovered until knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean, about 30 minutes longer. Let Stand 10 minutes before cutting. 6 generous servings.

This recipe is from Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook, dated 1982. It really does have some really good basic recipes. I use it all the time along with my 1953 American Woman Cookbook.

Thanks so much for stopping by and be sure to visit Gollum to find some fabulous recipes. I know you will love them.

Marty,
This is a fabulous quiche you picked out. I have made this several times for church events and for the crowd here at home. It is always a winner. I have worn my BH&G Cookbook's cover off. Great recipes in there!

Marty, That sounds just great! I really enjoy quiche. It's a nice breakfast entree for the weekend when you have a little more time to linger at the table over coffee and the newspaper. I still use my BH & G cookbook that I received as a wedding gift in 1976. There are lots of good recipes there.
Hugs and blessings, Beth

I know we would love this! I make quiches and frittatas often for simple meals during the week. Of course the bacon, cheese and green onions make it sound delicious!

I really adore quiche and your recipe looks great! I have a 16 year old that can't stand it...can you believe that...is he already to that stage of "real men don't eat quiche?" Yummy post!

Marty, this sounds like a good lunch recipe, together with a nice salad or tomatoes in basalmic vinegar with mint! I like to get the ingredients ready ahead of time too. Linda

Going to have to try this one out. Exspecialy after I mentioned it to my fiance and he said "Whats a quiche? We really need to get out more... or maybe I need to cook more!

My name is Sherry and I am new to the Bloggerette Sorority. I wanted to come by and introduce myself. I am sorry that I missed the rush, but I have only been blogging for a few weeks! Looking forward to joining in on the fun to come with everyone. I would be honored if you would stop by my blog at http://scrappingwithsherry1.blogspot.com/. Hope to see you there.

This is my favorite quiche flavour Marty. When I cook this for my family, though, I always add some grated zucchini and baby spinach with a little extra flour to soak up the extra moisture...the kids (and hubby!!) don't even know I have added in some vegetables that way!

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend,
Natasha.

If I had to choose only ONE meat to eat for the rest of my life, it would be BACON...no doubt.
So, I know I would love this...thanks so much. I just copied it for my files.

This is one of my all time favorite recipes when I don't know what to make for dinner. It is so yummy! the only different thing is I use chives instead of green onions only because we have so many in our garden.
