Today is one of my favorite days, I get to play with my dishes. Many thanks to Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch for hosting this wonderful event. Be sure to check out her blog to see her wonderful tablescape and a list of all the others participating.

Today I am also linking up with Leigh @ Tales from Bloggeritaville for Thrifty Thursday since I am featuring a centerpiece I made using some plastic pumpkins that I transformed with a little spray paint to look like ceramic ones, and china that I found at the Goodwill.
Tomorrow is my DH's Birthday, so I've set the table for a dinner party.

I'm using the floral arrangement that I made with my painted pumpkins as the centerpiece. I've added some gold ribbon loops to give it a little sparkle. To see how I made the pumpkins, check out my previous post.

The light coming in from the window makes the table glow.

The brass candlesticks, the gold chargers and the crystal glisten so pretty with the sun shining through the window.

Each place is set with an embroidered tissue linen placemat and matching napkin. I'm using gold chargers and I've scattered tea lights around for a wonderful evening glow.

The crystal is an assortment that belonged to my Mother and Mother-In-Law. I don't know anything about the patterns ( I bet Bill does), but they are all at least 60 yrs. old.

The china is Formal Garden - by Grace China - Made in Japan and discontinued in 1939. I found it at the GW on one of my very lucky days. I just love it.

As it started to get dark, the candles give the table a wonderful sparkle and glow. I love the look of candlelight glistening off crystal.

Once the family is gathered around the table, that will make it the most special of all.

As a side note, many of you have also asked me where to find cloches. There are a lot available on the Internet, but sometimes the prices are a little high. I posted yesterday about a sale that Wisteria is having (www.wisteria.com). The have their bell shaped cloche with the pretty bird on top on sale. The small is $13 and the med is 8.5 x 12.5 inches and is $15. Just thought I would let you know if you are interested, check them out.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.

Hi Marty,
ReplyDeleteYour centerpiece is spectacular! As always, you've coordinated everything on the table beautifully, AND there's harmony and unity throughout the living spaces surrounding it.
The dishes were a fantastic find, and I'm so pleased that they found a home with you! I'm sorry I don't recognize your stemware patterns, but they're all absolutely beautiful!
A good reference book is "Elegant Glassware of the Depression Era: Identification and Value Guide" by Gene Florence. There are several editions (I'd have to look to see which mine is). I usually do searches on Replacements.com and eBay, using key words that describe the shape, color, type of decoration, etc. I can usually find it eventually. In one case, I e-mailed a photograph to Replacements, LTD and they replied the same day. They offer a free pattern identification service that can be very helpful.
Bye for now,
Bill
FAB centerpiece!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Marty,
ReplyDeleteI love the warmth of your tablescape, it is quite beautiful! Great centerpiece - I am going to take a peek and see how you did the pumpkins.

ReplyDeleteI did comment on your centerpiece on another post. It certainly is great. I really like those placemats and the matching napkins. Finding those glasses at GW was a real found treasure. I love the photos where you lit the candles. It gave the whole table a beautiful golden glow.
ReplyDeleteYour centerpiece added some fun height to your table, so gorgeous. I hope he had a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
ReplyDeleteHi Marty,
ReplyDeleteI'm late making my rounds today. You have really been busy creating beautiful centerpieces haven't you!! It looks so professional. I like the fullness and colors just remind me so much of fall....or the first day of autumn anyway which was Tues. LOL! I really miss everyone here in blog land but I've been so busy riding these horses to keep them going as much as I can and just exhausted in then! I don't even want to think of winter coming!! You know how much I struggle with gloomy days here in the Midwest! Better get out the old vitamin D! I have a couple of projects in the works so I need to finish soon. I have NOT been painting at all this summer and miss it so I'm going to try to get back into the studio again on a regular basis! I also went color shopping today for the house again....I think they have the leaks in the roof fixed? Crossed fingers! Have a wonderful weekend! Luanne
Your centerpiece is fantabulous!!! I'm going to check your post on the pumpkins right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Living it up at Lakewood,
Cindy
