Thanks so much to Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch for hosting this fun event. I always look forward to seeing what everyone has been doing. Be sure to check out her blog to see what she's been up to and to see a list of all the participants.
I love to look through some of the higher end furniture stores for decorating ideas. Their accessories are usually stunning and very expensive. I saw a centerpiece at Ladlow's that used bronze, gold and cream pumpkins in a floral arrangement that I thought would be beautiful in my home and at $450 I thought I could create it for less. Obviously they price these pieces so they won't sell, but I liked the idea of the pumpkins in a floral arrangement.
This is what I came up with and a really close copy.

I gathered some of the pumpkins and gourds that I found at the Dollar Tree and a few springs of greenery.

I had some Ant. Bronze, Gold, Ant. White and Clear spray paint.

I used a skewer to stick in the bottom of one of the pumpkins to use to hold it while I spray painted it.

I sprayed them an assortment of the Ant. White, Bronze, Gold and then used Clear over them to finish off. I just put the skewers in a clay pot to hold them up to dry. When they are painted and then sprayed with the clear they look like they are ceramic and not plastic at all. The camera had a hard time capturing that.

Next I got out the bin of dried and silk flowers that I have and found a few things that I thought looked like the arrangement that I was trying to copy. I also added a few feathers.

This pumpkin had the speckles on it, so I just sprayed it with 3 coats of clear to give it that ceramic look. You can also see some of the small gourds that I painted white, bronze and gold.

I sprayed this one bronze and then gave it a light dusting of the gold.

Not an exact copy, but really close. I love it and it really does go with my home decorations a lot better than all the oranges and it still looks like fall.

I must have taken 30 pictures and just couldn't get the light right. In real life the gourds and pumpkins really do look like they are ceramic and have such a fabulous shine to them that it really sets the arrangement off beautifully.

This is another arrangement that I copied from a visit to Ethan Allen a few years ago. When you're out shopping, be sure to pay attention to all the accessories, they spend a fortune to dress things up for their displays, and you can usually copy them for pennies.
Thanks so much for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.

Marty,
ReplyDeleteYour arrangement looks great! It's amazing how we can create similar arragements for so much less than the decorators get for theirs!
Just yesterday I asked DH to bring my Halloween boxes down from the attic because I wanted to paint mine, too. I hope mine turns out as nice as yours.
You did a great job on this centerpiece! Thanks for showing the steps you used to create it, so people like me that don't have a creative bone in her body can do it too! I love Ethan Allen and often "haunt" it for decorting ideas. Why pay a decorator when you can copy one that already did something you love?

Mary

Oh Marty!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful are these arrangements? I love the first one, and you know I can see the glaze look to the pumpkins. It is so beautiful. I want to know where you found the beautiful acorn laying on the table tho. That is what I really love. I have been searching for one of those darn acorns. I am going to find me a couple for the season is over. I so love them, and have seen them in many of the homes with their cloches. I went to Ross this past week, and found one, yes just one of the cupcake cloches, but I was so thrilled to have found even one. I will keep looking. You have me hooked my friend. I love all of the pheasant feathers in your arrangement, they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Country hugs and love always, Sherry
Marty!! It's GORGEOUS!!! I can't get over how beautiful it is! You are a very talented lady! Your spray painting job is fabulous! It looks every penny of $450. I am heading over to Dolar Tree! Happy week!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteMarty, you weren't kidding. This is just gorgeous! I'm so impressed with your ability to see something and then recreate it at a fraction of the cost. This really is beautiful and I bet you could sell these for quite a profit! Looks just beautiful in your dining room, and I love the way it relates to that beautiful picture on the wall. Beautiful job. Hugs, Kat

Way to go, Marty. It looks really pretty.
ReplyDeleteYou did beautiful work with this one. I'm going to have to go to a Dollar Tree. I keep seeing people say they get things there. I'm always copying arrangements that I see other places. Not only does it save a small fortune, it is fun! I love that tea bin of yours.
ReplyDeleteSue
Marty,
ReplyDeleteYour arrangments are beautiful. The one on your table goes well with the painting you have on the wall and that tea box you have is a dream.
Sandy
I love your beautiful fall arrangement. You are so talented to create something like this, and for such a small price too. It looks very expensive.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
What a smart idea! Love it and it's giving me some ideas as well, you know I can get "dangerous" with a can of spray paint! Beautiful arrangement!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! Your own mini version of "Double Take". I saw a fall wreath for $79.00! I sort of did the same thing with the copying. My total was $15.00. I think I'm going to try spray painting some pumpkins like you did.
ReplyDeleteKelly
Ha!We were both in the spray-paintin' mood! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour arrangement is GORGEOUS! You are so talented in seeing something beautiful and replicating it at home..for pennies!!
In answer to your quesion..I got my paint at Michaels..be sure to use your 40% off coupon! It's where all the other spray paints are. It's suppose to be for florals, but I use it on everything to get a quick 'antique' affect..
Have a great day!
Blessings,
Myrna
Happy Monday Marty!
ReplyDeleteWhew....you are such a clever gal. What a great idea...and it turned out beautifully. I am LOVING fall.

Hi Marty! You can go back to the furniture store and try to sell your flower arrangements for $300, LOL! I betcha yours is even prettier. Thanks for sharing the great idea! ...Christine
ReplyDeleteMarty, you never cease to amaze me. I know there are going to be a bunch of ladies at the dollar store and the paint store today trying to get the same look that you created. you are always inspiring, great job, my dear friend. Hugs Kathysue
ReplyDeleteOh Marty!
ReplyDeleteBoth arrangements turned out awesome. They have that expensive look to them. Painting the pumpkins and gourds was such a great idea. They can be painted any color to suit any decor. That's definitely going in my idea book. Have a wonderful Monday.
Hugs,
♥Ana
They're beautiful, Marty! What a good idea. Stick your pointy items in a plant pot to paint. I do love your tea box atop the cabinet!

Ohhh my, can you believe the prices they put on some of these things in the designer stores? And I just know that your arrangement is every bit as pretty and most likely...prettier!!!
