Today is time for another wonderful Metamorphosis Monday hosted by the lovely Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch. Be sure to check out her fabulous posts and her blog to see what everyone has been up to this past week. I just know you will find tons of inspiration.
I have a small home with large furniture and tons of windows which I love, but alas there is absolutely no room for a China Hutch. Now if you have suddenly become a dishaholic and want to play with your dishes and display them, this poses a problem.
As you can see in this picture, there is NO room for a hutch in the breakfast area. I did put a few plates on the wall around the mirror.

This is a view of the adjoining familyroom, and again not really any walls, but a lot of windows for wonderful light. I put a few plates on the wall space above the windows and between the drapes. A girls got to display her dishes somewhere, right?

This is the entertainment center across from the sofa. This use to have a lot of books and things in it, but now it has some of my dishes, which almost all came from Goodwill. This is my metamorphosis. I rearranged all the dishes and knick-knacks. Now I know that's a pretty small metamorphosis, but it's fun to change things out a bit. Everything was mostly white and some rooster plates. I wanted to add some color.

Ta-DA, now we have a little blue. It gives the room a little more color and I love being able to look at some of my blue and white things for a change.

Doesn't it look different with a little blue. I love seeing something different since we spend most of our time in this area of the house.

I like the blue in this side too. Makes me smile to see some of my great GW treasures.

Since the unit sits next to the entrance into the kitchen area and it's all one open space, I don't think it looks too weird. Maybe should hold books and etc, but I really like it holding my dishes. lol

Be sure to check out the button in the upper right hand corner of my blog for the wonderful Christmas in July party. She's got fabulous giveaways every week. Give her a shout out, she's really a sweetie and you will love her blog.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Wish we could have a cup of coffee or iced tea and visit. Come again soon.

ReplyDeleteMarty, it's a great idea to use the entertainment center as a dish-showcase - why not?! You can rotate things for different color schemes and motifs. By the way, darling bird cage, and the chair (is it wicker?)- love it! Linda

ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteI love your entertainment center, and I don't think it looks weird at all to have dishes in it! It actually reminds me of the entertainment centers I have seen in my Ballard's magazines. I love the blue dishes too. It is so bright and cheerful. I don't have any blue and white dishes, but would like to start collecting them. I also like have you have creatively displayed dishes in other parts of your home!
Blessings,
Traci
p.s. Thanks for my "shout out"! :)
Marty~ The white and blues are stunning. No wonder you smile when you go by, I would too. Love the dishes between the drapes. Looks very nice and interesting. I love plates that have roses on them. I've got some in my kitchen. If I ever get to paint, I'm going to put up some more.

Even though it is a small met, it has a big impact. Your blue dishes look so pretty there. What a great spot to change things out as you like. And I love your dishes displayed above the windows, that's a great idea with how high we are all hanging our curtain rods nowadays!
ReplyDelete~Michelle
Love the way you have used the entertainment center to your advantage...what a clever idea. I love the dishes and the blue and white combination is really eye catching. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMarty, you added some real POP! here. The blue made such a difference, really... I had to go out and pick up some cabinetry last week to house all my dishes and glassware. Thank goodness it was only a trip to our furniture store... Fantastic little transformation!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are lovely, Marty. Great display ideas. I used to have a tureen exactly like the white one you are showing....don't know what I did with it.
ReplyDeleteOh no......my hubby needs to scour the attic. Ha.
Hugs, Barb
Your home is so lovely Marty! I like the way you hung the plates around the mirror and your beautiful dishes. I hope you have a wonderful 4th!. :O)
ReplyDeleteHi Marty! I love that you found a place to display your dishes and you displayed them so nicely too. Love the blue and white ones, so classic! Your home is gorgeous, so warm! I am back home and trying to get caught up. AJ is here vacationing for the next 2 weeks too so we're having lots of fun. She said this is her best vacation ever and it is so nice to hear that from her!....Christine
ReplyDeleteMarty, it's so pretty! You've been a puttering like me I see! (You already told me you were...) Who cares if it's made for books. I always say: use something for what you need; not what it's originally for. And you did a wonderful job of arranging. I'm going to remember this, as I've now got dishes coming out of my ears! (I suppose every time I see your name I shall equate you with cloches!)
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Love the blue and white Marty! You have so many different looks for this shelves! I don't think I would have enough dishes to fill them! LOL! Thanks for stopping by and all the compliments/encouraging words you give on my horse training abilities....I'm just a beginner! LOL! Have a great MM! Luanne
ReplyDeleteYour home is absolutely BEAUtiful!!!! With all the windows and light...just warm, comfortable and terrific. I love the idea of where you placed the plates between the drapery sections and around the mirror. A perfect touch.
ReplyDeleteVery creative ways to display all of those beautiful dishes! You obviously have a great ability to think outside the box. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteGoodness you think your space is small!
ReplyDeleteI love the dishes, especially the blues.
Sorry I haven't visiting for a while, really struggling with depression at the moment - finally admitted defeat and went to the doctor today.
Oh Marty!
ReplyDeleteI love, love your home. It is so beautiful. What a wonderful job you have done decorating to a "T". I really love the mirror with the plates around it, that is so original and breathtaking. I also love the bread box that has the lemons on the front of it. I love blue, however my kitchen area will always be red as I absolutely adore cherries. Thank you so much for the lovely tour. It made me want to sit down and have tea with you. I will be posting a bargain later tonight when I get home from work. Keep checking. Thanks so much for sharing. "Country Hugs", Sherry
You have found some great pieces at GW. I need to drop by mine more often. I like the way the entertainment center looks with all the white and blue/white pieces.
ReplyDeleteRhonda
I love those Blue Willow pieces you have--so pretty!
ReplyDelete~ Sarah
Marty, your dishes look fantastic in the hutch! I like mixing the colors, too -- and you've got a very good eye for placement. I wish you COULD come here and do that for me -- I have no talent at all in that department; things just sort of get put on the shelves, all which-way; they never look nice, like they do on your shelves!
ReplyDeleteLove this makeover!
Cass
(Where are the books now?)
This looks lovely! I love decorating with dishes and I have them all over my walls - it's a great place if you don't have enough wall space for a hutch!
ReplyDeleteManuela
I'd much rather look at pretty plates than books any day. I love the blue & white you are now displaying.
ReplyDeleteHey Marty...I love how you used dishes instead of books!!!! it looks fantastic..so unique! I live in a tiny house too and my kitchen is just so small..the only place I haven't put dishes on the wall yet is in the living room...but I got my eye on a few spots in there! lol...beautiful home sweetie and I love those windows! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your MM! Your home is also very pretty!
ReplyDeleteKatherine
Marty, you have some absolutely exquisite pieces in your dish collection! Oh goodness, how I would love to "go shopping" from those shelves! I think this is a great place to display and enjoy your dishes, especially since you spend a lot of time in this room. :)
ReplyDeleteI think your entertainment center looks great, and I love the added touches of blue. I am telling you, you find the best stuff at GW!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, Nicole
Great idea for a space saver! I have no room for a hutch either. Cute cute things!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Allison
Marty...I just love the idea of putting your dishes in the entertainment center!Who says they have to be filled with videos, cd's and books!! You have a lovely home, I enjoyed looking around!! Huggy Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMarty, Your mini-met packed a big punch! The blue makes it look more cohesive. I think it's clever that you used the entertainment center to display your pretty pieces. Much more interesting than books. That would be too predictable! I love what you've done!
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Marty,
ReplyDelete...I think the dishes look great there, especially since it is right next to the kitchen...it just goes! You have some beautiful things.
I also..like the way you displayed your dishes on the wall over the windows. THAT is cute! And you can never go wrong displaying your blue and white..it always gives just the right touch no matter what your decorating style! You have a lovely home, Marty! Displaying you glass in the entertainment center really looks wonderful! I love it!
~smiles and love,
Mona
Good morning, Marty! Thanks for swinging by and for your usual kind comments. The pool looks good and almost completed but nothing around it is done. It's taking longer than expected cause the yard turned out to be more work. The house is situated on a hill so the backyard is uneven. They had to build up on one end of the pool (which was 2.5 ft lower than the other end) and now they are building a retaining wall and then they can start on the deck. They still have to lay the brick coping around the pool. The pool has clean nice warm water and we have been sneaking in and swimming after the pool guys leave, lol. AJ is really enjoying it and we have to beg her to come out to have dinner. I'll post some pics for Outdoor Wed tomorrow....Christine

ReplyDeleteI have an Honest Scrap Award for you on my blog if you wish to participate....I had not done it before and was kind of fun. Luanne
