Thanks again to Susan for hosting this wonderful Metamorphois Monday. Be sure to visit her @http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com to see all the wonderful posts.
When we moved into our new home and I discovered that my carpet wasn't beige but cocoa, I couldn't use my favorite reds and golds. The red made the carpet look pink and the gold made the carpet look dirty. So I finally found some dark peach tones and pulled the room together with cocoa, chocolate and peach. Looked good to me and so there it stayed. I have never been one to change things very often. Just put it together and leave it alone. Then I started seeing all the beautiful rooms you gals change all the time and my dear friend Kathysue changes hers for the seasons, so one day I told her I thought it would be nice to have a cooler summer look since we live in the desert. Now this lady has more decorating talent that accidentally drips off her little finger than I have in my whole body. She immediately said "Oh, I think a cool blue/green, linen and white would look great". Perfect, so off to the fabric store I went.
These two pictures are the before with peach.
I found three great fabrics. One with tulips, a stripe and a plaid. The tulip linen was on sale for $3yd, the stripe is an outdoor fabric and the plaid is a tablecloth from Ross. I thought the colors worked great together, and inexpensive at the same time. Out came the sewing machine and off to work I went.

I had already been collecting white dishes and accessories from frequent shopping trips to the Goodwill, so I started pulling everything out and trying my hand at tabletop vignettes with all my thrifty finds.

The fairies I borrowed out of the yard and with a new coat of whitewash, they looked great. Isn't that little face just precious.

All of the accessories are my Goodwill treasures or things I already had.

I used my grandmother's platter as a tray for the tea set, and her little glass candleholders. These were always on her table.

I thought a luncheon size tablecloth looked more casual for summer. Notice how the blue/green pops out in the painting. Somehow I never noticed that before.

Even the books on the end table are from Goodwill.

I love the much cooler look of the room, it just seems so refreshing to walk through it. Now when the summer months hit those all too often 110 and 120 degrees, I can think of cool breezes and ocean waters. Well, I can dream anyway. Thank all of you ladies for always inspiring, and most of all thank you Kathysue, you're a special friend.
I appreciate you stopping by, I always look forward to your visits. Hugs, Marty Pin It

ReplyDeleteHi Marty! I have always loved your living and dining room I love the before and I love the after. Isn't it wonderful to change a look just by switching pillows and other accessories? I love all your goodwill finds. Sorry for sounding like a broken record but I really love them! When you come help me in our yard, you can stay in our guestroom..LOL! You know you are ALWAYS welcome even if you do not help me with the garden...Christine
ReplyDeleteI can't believe what a huge re-do you got out of such a small investment. All the fabrics are lovely. It really is a beautiful room - and one you would want to sit in all day long! Well done! Linda

ReplyDeleteVery cool Marty! I'm like you... I put it in there and leave it alone except for my bedroom. I change the bedding and draperies 4 times a year with the seasons! I don't know why... I just aways have. Now that my daughter is an Interior Designer she is helping me do all my rooms! I also got my inspiration here from all these wonderful decorating friends!

Hi Marty,
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous Met Monday Post! What a difference, and what great ideas you have. I loved the before's and I loved the after"s. it just is amazing what you did with fabric and the goodwill finds! Cindy
Marty, this looks great. I've told you before how much I love the fabric you chose, but it's so much easier to see the full effect on this post. It looks like a completely different room. You are so talented, I love your vision for the room and the way you executed it. And I noticed the difference in the painting right away, it almost looks like a different piece. Hugs, Kathy
ReplyDeleteHi Marty, I have always loved this room. You know that I am crazy about your big oversized mirror which is so perfect for the space. Anyway, I think I am beginning to get the idea. Like you, I get a look that I like and then I stick with it (some would call it a rut). But you (and Kathysue) are inspiring me to break out of my shell and try to change things up. I like the idea of a summer look and a winter look. You have done a great job. Someone else mentioned how the colors in the painting just pop with your new summer look. Actually, I love both looks. Your friend, Jeanette
ReplyDeleteHi Marty...Your room is beautiful in both versions & I also love the way your painting works so well with the warm & the cool. I envy the fact you can sew...you did a wonderful job!
ReplyDelete;-) Bo
I love your rooms! You are so lucky to find so many treasures at Goodwill. I never find any goodies in our's. Love your table with your grandmother's things.

I really like your Before room.... it's so warm and cozy. But, I really like your After room too!! It does have the lighter, cooler feel that you were going for. Especially like the new cushions on the sofa -- great combo of colour and patterns :-)
ReplyDeleteIf you can do all the sewing, you can definitely re-upholster a chair!! :-)

ReplyDeletehugs ~lynne~
unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amazing transformation!!!!! i like it with the blues. Your house is beautiful - you've done such a great job. ok, I have one interior designing suggestion for you to try - take your mirror and put it in the dining room - leaning against the wall where the flower painting is, then hang the painting above the sofa. I think it would really change things up - and look great at the same time. if you do it, send me a pix= I would love to see if I was right or hopelessly wrong!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour home is just lovely! I have favorites in every room! The giant mirror in your LV is to die for!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
